The Role


We are seeking a Swim School Supervisor to work in a full-time capacity at Cook & Phillip Park Aquatic and Fitness Centre. The Swim School Supervisor is expected to build high levels of member retention and engagement, employ and retain high calibre staff, and contribute to profitable Swim School outcomes. The Swim School Supervisor will provide leadership and direction to all aquatic staff and ensure delivery of aquatics services to the highest standard possible.    


Successful applicants will demonstrate the ability to communicate and interact effectively with students that have a diverse range of ages, abilities, cultures and needs, with outstanding customer service skills and personal service ethic.


Key Accountabilities

  • Helping to recruit and induct new swimming instructors
  • Ensuring swim instructors have appropriate mandatory qualifications, and are conducting safe, positive and motivating swimming classes around a structured program
  • Providing ongoing coaching, development and training for swimming instructors
  • Developing ideas for new swimming programs and initiatives
  • Promoting Swim School programs and services, and developing partnerships with local schools, child care centres and community groups
  • Conducting daily inspections of swimming areas / equipment and ensuring appropriate reporting procedures e.g. injuries and near-misses
  • Managing Swim School enquiries, sales and targets
  • Working within a budget and reporting on Swim School enrolments and financial performance
  • Some direct service hours within the business requirements of the Swim School Program

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • National Police Check
  • Working with Children Check (or equivalent)
  • Current First Aid and CPR
  • Austswim Teacher of swimming and water safety (or equivalent)
  • Austswim Teacher of Infant and Pre-School Aquatics
  • Ability to conduct yourself in a professional manner
  • Ability to liaise with staff and train them
  • Excellent inter-personal and communication skills 
  • Understanding of swim schools and their ability to grow students into competitive swimmers
  • Knowledge of swimming industry practices, teaching and coaching principles
  • Minimum 2-3 years’ Learn to Swim teaching experience
  • Minimum 12 months experience in a supervisory role
  • Excellent inter-personal and communication skills
  • Ability to act with courtesy, professionalism and cultural sensitivity
  • Ability to lead and motivate a team
  • Ability to build Swim School enrolments through interactions and overall member experience
